Timeline of the Cause

2002	Servant of God. The Archbishop Fulton Sheen Foundation is established as the canonical Promoter of the Cause for the Beatification and Canonization of Fulton Sheen and the Cause formally opened by Bishop Daniel Jenky, Bishop of Peoria, Illinois, the birthplace of Fulton Sheen.
2006	The testimony of 2 miracles alleged to have occured through Fulton Sheens intercession are forwarded to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints.
2008	Diocesan Phase. The diocesan phase of the Cause concludes, and 22 volumes of testimony and evidence are committed to the Congregation.
2011	Positio. On May 25, 2011 the official summary of the life and works of the Archbishop was presented to the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, by Bishop Jenky, CSC. The Pope noted that he knew Fulton Sheen and worked with him during Vatican II.
2011	Miracle. On December 11, 2011, the diocescan formal inquery into a miracle is completed, and would be submitted on behalf of the Cause.
2012	Venerable. Pope Benedict XVI declares Fulton Sheen Venerable, after recognizing his life of heroic virtue.
2019	Miracle Recognized. On July 6th, the medical miracle offered in support of the Cause is recognized by Pope Francis. The miracle involved the unexplained recovery of a stillborn infant, James Fulton Engstrom, after 61 minutes without a pulse.
2019	Translation of the Body, June 27. The body of Archbishop Sheen arrives in Peoria, Illinous, having been brought from the crypt in St. Patricks Cathedral, New York City, where it had been entombed.
2019	The beatification ceremony. which had been scheduled for December 21, 2019, was postponed in connection with on-going civil and ecclesiastical investigations of abuse cases in the diocese of Rochester, New York, where he had been the bishop (1966–1969), as well as a dispute over the disposition of his mortal remains between the New York and Peoria diocesess. Ultimately, Archbishop Sheen was cleared of any wrongdoing by New York and Church authorities, and his final resting place resolved in favor of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria.
2026	Beatification, Sepember 24, St. Louis Missouri. Although the diocese of Peoria, Illinois, would ordinarily be the site for the ceremony, it was moved to the Archdiocese of St. Louis in order to accomodate the expected numbers of clergy and faithful.
