Accountant

TITLE:                 Accountant

REPORTS TO:    Financial Manager

DEPARTMENT:   Accounting

LOCATION:         Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of standard, technical, accounting functions including analysis, preparation, and maintenance of routine and non-routine entries to the general ledger of EWTN. The Accountant assists in the preparation of interim financial statements, undertakes special projects and/or reports as directed by management, and works closely with management in preparation of annual audits by the independent auditors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews source documents used for accounting, maintenance of ledgers, registers and other records of initial entry, and preparation of periodic and special financial reports, budgets, and maintains fiscal records applying professional accounting principles and methods.
  • Assists in the preparation of daily EWTN cash counts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare special account analyses and financial reports as directed by management.
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries and adjustments, with detailed backup; analyze variance reports; and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Responsible for inter-organization transaction with related parties, including billings and reconciliation of inter-organization accounts.
  • Participate in the monthly financial closing process as directed by management.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all general ledger accounts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical ability to process routine data rapidly, efficiently and in accordance with prescribed goals and policies
  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a team environment
  • Independent bearing with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and confidentiality

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Bilingual Viewer Services Representative plays an important role representing EWTN to further the message and mission of our foundress, Mother Angelica, to our EWTN Family. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews and replies to all correspondence as needed.
  • Answers audience questions via various forms of communication, including telephone, internet and written correspondence.
  • Responds to questions relative to Friary, Marketing, Production, Programming, Radio, Theology and other areas of the Network as appropriate.
  • Takes prayer requests and handles appropriately and respectfully.
  • Accepts and keys donations from donors via various methods, including but not limited to credit card and/or ACH.
  • Performs data entry of donations and gift/order requests into computer.
  • Routes incoming calls as needed.
  • Provides excellent service to those contacting EWTN.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience or equivalent training and experience.

Cash Management Specialist

TITLE:                Cash Management Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Cash Management Specialist is responsible for analyzing and reconciling daily cash flow to ensure accuracy and completeness of recorded cash activity for EWTN, Religious Catalogue, News and Publishing and to identify opportunities to maximize financial resources available to the Network.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconciles daily / weekly cash transactions for all bank accounts (Wells Fargo, Regions, and SNB)
  • Records Daily Cash revenues for EWTN, RC, News, and Publishing, and reconciles entries to Daily Cash Report, records credit card and other online revenue received in EWTN Online account and EWTN News Online account.
  • Monitor, maintain, analyze, and journal entry miscellaneous revenue and other receipts
  • Download and save all FIS/FID donation revenue spreadsheets and provide data to the Mail Processing Manager
  • Balances Daily Cash entries to Daily Cash report
  • Prepares the Daily Cash Report
  • Monitors returned checks or ACHs, create monthly data worksheet to provide the Donation Processing Manager
  • Prepare journal entries for returned checks and ACH donation returns
  • Scans in appropriate backup and Donor Direct backup if applicable to Cash revenue entries
  • Reconciles Credit Card revenue to applicable reports for all companies
  • Prepares weekly summary of available cash for internal management review.
  • Reviews and researches outstanding check list for all companies.
  • Works with Financial Managers to resolve outstanding issues on bank reconciliation before month end.
  • Performs comprehensive review of monthly bank analysis statements to determine the reasonableness of bank charges and fees.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

TITLE:                 Network Cook

REPORTS TO:      Vice President of Programming & Production

DEPARTMENT:     Guest Services

LOCATION:          Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Network Cook plans, purchases, and prepares food and beverages for Network Guests.  This includes planning and preparing healthy meals for an established schedule and overseeing kitchen operations in general.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Network Chef on food and beverage preparation, ensuring proper food handling techniques and food safety standards/regulations are followed.
  • Prepares menu items according to guest requests, taking into account allergies, etc. as able.
  • Uses, maintains, and cleans kitchen equipment, preparation and storage areas.
  • Assists Network Chef in maintaining food and equipment inventories.
  • Oversees and communicates with Network Chef as necessary for efficient kitchen operations and conformance to standards and Network policies.
  • Assists Network Chef with sanitation practices to ensure staff follows standards and regulations and conducts training as necessary.
  • Greets guests and provides proper instructions for serving.
  • Shops for groceries, including those needed for daily meals.
  • Supplies Guest Housing with food/snacks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute strategies that build brand awareness and increase audience acquisition for the EWTN News shows and services.
  • Create multimedia content.
  • Review and copy edit content on a daily basis.
  • Management of social media accounts. 
  • Upload and execute search engine and social media optimization for EWTN News shows content on digital platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others).
  • Create reports and analyzes data to measure progress and effectiveness of messaging and social media efforts.
  • Work with Editors and Media Managers to obtain photos and video content to accompany social media posts and website.

Editor-In-Chief (NCR - Washington, DC)

TITLE:               Editor-In-Chief

REPORTS TO:    Executive Director

DEPARTMENT:  National Catholic Register

LOCATION:        Washington, DC

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Editor-in-Chief works with the Executive Director to establish the editorial vision and related strategy for the National Catholic Register and manages the editorial team to accomplish strategic goals. Oversees the production and publication of all content for the Register’s media platforms. Provides quality control on all content, ensuring journalistic accuracy, theological soundness, and effective distribution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to strategic planning and implements vision for the Register; Sets tone, style, scope, and editorial direction in continuity with plan and vision.
  • Directs production of all Register content including article angle and scope, assigning, editing and final publication.
  • Leads editorial team including editors, writers, contractors, graphic artists and other personnel in planning day-to-day editorial coverage including news, features, analysis, and opinion content. 
  • Responsible for accuracy, journalistic quality, and theological soundness of published content; Monitors articles for legal, ethical, and theological concerns and consults with the Executive Director on questionable content.
  • Ensures constant diversity of perspective (within bounds of Catholic magisterium) in reporting and approach to news (what to cover when, how, and from what angle); provides context, balance, and clarity; includes Catholic historical and catechetical backdrop whenever possible.
  • Supervises the content that the Register delivers on social media be it proprietary or from other EWTN partners.
  • Monitors reports on readership statistics and assists in strategizing on how to increase reach and engagement.
  • Works with Executive Director to recruit, hire, motivate and manage the editorial team, including freelance talent; Provides regular feedback, constructive advice on improvement as needed, and training for staff. 
  • Delegates responsibilities and sees that tasks are completed.
  • Edits copy on sensitive matters or content of strategic significance.
  • Writes editorials, occasional interviews or articles for the publication.
  • Reviews and manages editorial guidelines, policies, schedules and related compliance; Maintains effective editorial workflow using available technologies.
  • Cultivates sources and commentators; Maintains regular contact with Catholic bishops, intellectuals and leaders in order to guarantee fluid relationships.
  • Establishes editorial advisors to provide expertise, information and content on various subject areas including bioethics, politics, Church history, moral theology, philosophy, general legal, and canon law.
  • Collaborates with counterparts at EWTN News on news coverage and content distribution, especially Catholic News Agency (”CNA”).
  • Assists Executive Director and Director of Operations with editorial budget planning and manages the editorial budget.
  • Manages reader relations and publication’s image.
  • Represents the Register at meetings and events and in the media as necessary.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in Journalism or Communications. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Management/Leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of and faithful practice of Roman Catholic faith.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with colleagues and readers diplomatically.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN News In Depth General Assignment Correspondent works with the Senior Producer and the In Depth team to gather, produce, and present news reports from a Catholic perspective.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, produce, and present general assignment reports of interest to a Catholic audience. Must demonstrate knowledge of current events and public policy from a Catholic perspective.
  • Pitch original story ideas examining the intersection of Catholic Social Teaching and public policy. While the topic is religion, the role is general assignment in that the stories will range from hard news lead stories, to potential investigations, to feature reports. Must have the ability, interest, and flexibility to do them all.
  • Develop sources and contacts in Washington, D.C. and around the country. Some stories may require regional or national travel.
  • Collaborate with the editorial and technical teams to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos, and graphics).
  • Execute live shots in the field or in the studio as needed.
  • Use various social media platforms.
  • Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, broadcasts, websites, social media, and Catholic publications.
  • Multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain relationships within the community.  This may include public appearances and covering events of relevance.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Graphic Designer will design and develop complex graphics and collateral materials for print communications, electronic media, and presentations. This includes design and layout using state of the art computer hardware, software methods and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and produces graphic materials for print media, electronic communications and web related projects.
  • Collaborates with Creative Director in planning, development, layout, and production of graphics, electronic presentations and of web related projects.
  • Ensures image quality, editorial interpretation and graphic file size meet website requirements.
  • Coordinates printing requirements with printers to ensure quality and cost-effective delivery.
  • Counsels web developer in the development of the graphic content.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in design, digital arts or related field.
  • Knowledge of web development software and trends. 
  • Skilled and proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign in a graphics design environment.

  • Understanding of design restraints.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the set-up and maintenance of hardware and software, including the following OS platforms: Windows 7, Windows 10, and latest Mac OS.  Will provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the EWTN Network Environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, upgrade, support and troubleshoot printers, computer hardware, mobile devices, Windows OS 7 & 10, Office 2013/2016 and other authorized desktop applications and peripheral equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problem areas using diagnostic tools (in person, by telephone, or via remote access) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide direct end user assistance where required.
  • Install, diagnose, clean, repair, maintain, and upgrade hardware and equipment (including but not limited to PCs, laptops, printers, scanners and cell phones) unless prohibited by existing customer warranties, to ensure optimal performance.
  • Anticipate trends by monitoring and analyzing incoming calls, problems, and support requests.

Makeup Artist

TITLE:               Makeup Artist

REPORTS TO:    Crew Chief

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Makeup Artist applies makeup to EWTN hosts and guests for various shows.  Duties also include hair styling and wardrobe recommendation.  The position also assists in set decoration and assisting the production crew with set up and tear down of production sets.  This is a full-time, permanent role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply makeup to program hosts and guests.
  • Assist in appropriate removing of makeup.
  • Purchase makeup and other products needed for the position.
  • Source high quality materials (cosmetics and tools) and order them from trusted manufacturers to maintain excellence and satisfaction to news crew and guests
  • Establish budgets, and work within budgetary limits to purchase materials
  • Clean and maintain makeup applicators and tools
  • Maintain a clean and orderly make up area in green room.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Newsroom Production Assistant provides administrative, technical, and organizational support to producers and directors in a news production environment.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Safety & Security Officer provides campus presence and surveillance to ensure the safety and security of all employees, guests and visitors.  Patrols network grounds on a continuous basis and offers assistance and information to the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs campus surveillance by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watches for situations that could result in injury or loss due to potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Screens all vehicles at the Network entrances and monitors activity at or near assigned post.  Maintains a sense of vigilance for undesirable, dangerous, or counterproductive activities or individuals.
  • Monitors camera activity, fire protection systems and other devices from a control room and dispatches calls as necessary.
  • Relays critical information to other security personnel as necessary.
  • Provides accurate and timely written or verbal information/instruction to all vendors, visitors, pilgrims, or anyone conducting business with the Network.
  • Reviews and has personal knowledge of the Safety and Security daily postings and instructions.
  • Initiates emergency 911 calls as appropriate and directs emergency vehicles to proper location on site.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, basic emergency assistance to employees and guests as needed.
  • Completes incident and accident report forms as necessary.
