Broadcast TV Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

TITLE:                 Broadcast TV Engineer

REPORTS TO:    Chief Engineer

DEPARTMENT:  Engineering

LOCATION:        Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: This position involves maintaining television transmission, audio and video equipment, including computers and automation systems. The candidate will be directly responsible for hands-on support as well as performing operational checks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and repair transmitters (TV, Fiber, satellite, etc.), receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, video tape systems, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms, monitors and display systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on an assortment of production equipment.
  • Proficient in test equipment including coax/fiber, baseband and related tools for use in installation, maintenance, and repair of media systems.
  • Compliant with required safety and technical standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in broadcast television or related field.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, interpreting and diagnosing operational/technical equipment problems.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule outside of normal business hours, including morning, nights and weekends.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Physically able to perform the duties (ability to lift 60 lbs. or more)
  • Good eyesight and hearing are required; No color blindness.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Custodian keeps office buildings in clean and orderly condition. Responsible for appropriately using Network supplies and equipment in order to minimize loss and waste.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, break rooms, and restrooms.
  • Empties wastebaskets.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Replenishes supplies in bathrooms, and break rooms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides policy guidance, interpretation and assistance in implementing all procedures and programs.

  • Supports and assists in implementing organizational change initiatives aligned with the Network’s mission.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ Human Resources experience at the Generalist/Manager level with proven ability to work with minimum supervision.

Media Manager (Washington DC)

JOB SUMMARY

TITLE:                  Media Manager

REPORTS TO:    Operations Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Media Manager is responsible for all media generated for use in all shows produced out of the EWTN News DC Bureau. Working closely with producers, editors, and the bureau’s engineer and operations staff, the Media Manager ingests, organizes, and archives media from a variety of sources, while also monitoring and maintaining overall system health.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Record video feeds, web video, Skypes, and Zooms.  Download and encode video, audio, and graphic files from AP, CNN, social media sites, and other sources. 
  • Coordinate with producers and operations staff to bring in live and pre-taped video from the field and ensure delivery to editors in the correct broadcast standards.
  • Work closely with the studio operations team and engineer to coordinate routing of incoming feeds from various sources, and record isolated channels for interviews.
  • Manage assets between shows and ensure contract compliance for broadcast rights.
  • Facilitates delivery of video to other EWTN facilities and departments and outside vendors as needed.
  • Collect, catalogue and maintain original video library for use in productions, including archiving video and graphics, while augmenting assets specific to EWTN’s Washington, D.C. and Catholic operations.
  • Monitor overall system in close collaboration with studio engineer to maintain system health and optimal functionality.
  • Assist with live studio operations during show tapings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in broadcast media.
  • Demonstrated understanding of video formats, codecs, and encoding protocols; current broadcast standards and technology; and professional editing software. AVID Interplay familiarity, or other asset management systems, a major plus.

  • Appropriately decides when to escalate complex donor matters to management for resolution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with the Director of Studio Operations, Supervising Producer, Crew Chief, Scheduler and Post Production Supervisor on, crew, scheduling and post production issues.
  • Works on overall program production related activities associated with proper completion of the production or series from conception to final product.
  • Contacts talent; organizes scripts.
  • Coordinates with Set Designer on set requirements and with Creative Services Department on graphic requirements.
  • Coordinates and Schedules each day’s production(s).
  • Insures transportation and housing requirements of guests have been met.
  • Secures performance releases and copyright clearances as required by that specific production.
  • Coordinates with third parties contributing content to EWTN.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Production Assistant is responsible for the technical setup and operation of all audio related production functions in the studio or in the field, including interviews, music, voice-overs, telephone interfaces, roll-ins, and any other audio effects that may be required. Works in other production crew positions as assigned, including Technical Director, Floor Director, Camera Operator, Tape Operator, Video Operator, Teleprompter Operator, Grip, lighting assistant, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with the Director, Producer and Management on audio requirements and setup required for both studio and remote productions.
  • Sets up and positions microphones for talent, music and/or ambient sound as the production requires.
  • Responsible for proper selection and operation of all audio related equipment.
  • Maintains proper source levels (microphones, clip players, decks, telephone interface, CD, etc.) and relational perspective as production requires.
  • Files equipment trouble reports as necessary.
  • Assists in setting up and taking down sets and production equipment in the studio and in the field.
  • Assists editors by organizing, capturing and ingesting media.
  • Assists producers by logging and labeling media, monitoring productions, completing necessary reports, etc.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Safety & Security Officer provides campus presence and surveillance to ensure the safety and security of all employees, guests and visitors.  Patrols network grounds on a continuous basis and offers assistance and information to the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs campus surveillance by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watches for situations that could result in injury or loss due to potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Screens all vehicles at the Network entrances and monitors activity at or near assigned post.  Maintains a sense of vigilance for undesirable, dangerous, or counterproductive activities or individuals.
  • Monitors camera activity, fire protection systems and other devices from a control room and dispatches calls as necessary.
  • Relays critical information to other security personnel as necessary.
  • Provides accurate and timely written or verbal information/instruction to all vendors, visitors, pilgrims, or anyone conducting business with the Network.
  • Reviews and has personal knowledge of the Safety and Security daily postings and instructions.
  • Initiates emergency 911 calls as appropriate and directs emergency vehicles to proper location on site.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, basic emergency assistance to employees and guests as needed.
  • Completes incident and accident report forms as necessary.
  • Transports guests to and from the Birmingham airport.
  • Communicates with and assists other Network departments whenever special instructions for guests or visitors are required.  Assists with pilgrims if necessary.
  • Directs traffic for special functions and some live show events.
  • Participates in department training and drills as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the security, law enforcement or military field.
  • Possess valid Alabama State Driver’s License.
  • Possess valid State of Alabama pistol permit (semi-automatic 9mm or larger).
  • Ability to qualify with a firearm.
  • Possess up to date First Aid and CPR certification or be willing to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA & NFPA codes and standards.
  • Possess basic computer skills.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Shortwave Radio Operator executes daily responsibilities including audio handling and monitoring of the on-air system.  Assist in the operation of the four (4) 500kw transmitters, associated electronic and mechanical equipment in accordance with the broadcast schedule.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor audio output of all feeds being broadcast.
  • Manually and automatically tune 500kw transmitters.
  • Maintain daily program schedules and FCC transmitter logs.
  • Executes operating instructions as required or as needed.
  • Performs technical assignments.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting, fault isolation and program analysis for optimum performance.
  • Assist Senior Operator in technical assignments.
  • Follows all station policies and programming guidelines.
  • Must assume all responsibilities when handling transmitters and understand you are subject to any fines and/or punishments according to FCC laws and regulations
  • Regular and prompt attendance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Stays calm and focused working under deadline in a fast-paced TV broadcast newsroom with its ever-changing content and requirements on a daily basis.
  • Coordinates with executives, producers and writers of EWTN News Nightly on the daily needs of the program.
  • Edits news elements paying strict attention to the facts and details.
  • Ensures all projects are completed in a timely manner, meeting all existing technical and stylistic protocols.
  • Creates and sends trouble reports related to equipment to supervisor and engineering.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry standards and trends related to the video post-production field.
  • Edits and Posts segments related to Online Services and Social Media platforms.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Videographer will shoot and edit general assignment, political and feature news in a non-linear newsroom for the EWTN News Nightly (ENN) program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shoot and edit general assignment, political and feature news stories.
  • Professionally light reporters and guests.
  • Operate live shots.
  • Operate streaming video equipment like LiveU.
  • Assist the Production Manager with managing the freelance photographers and the field production equipment, including company vehicles.
  • Setup and operate remote productions.
  • Assist in the control room during show production (robotics, tape operator, teleprompter, floor directing, delivering scripts).
  • Drive ENN crew vehicles.
  • Help reporters in the field with technical assistance.
  • Work may extend beyond broadcast completion including occasional weekends and international and domestic travel.
  • When asked, organize field crews with reporters and call in freelancers as needed.
  • Help maintain field equipment and crew vehicles.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of broadcast news field experience.
  • Demonstrated photography and editing skills in a multi-media newsroom.
  • Experience in Avid or comparable professional computer-based editing systems, and multiple tape formats.
  • Strong knowledge of location lighting techniques.
  • Tech savvy and informed about latest broadcast technology.

JOB SUMMARY

TITLE:                Viewer Services Representative

REPORTS TO:   Viewer Services Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:  Viewer Services

LOCATION:        Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Viewer Services Representative plays an important role in delivering the message and mission of our foundress, Mother Angelica, to our EWTN Family. The Viewer Services Representative provides an attentive, caring and positive experience to our audience through phone calls, e-mail, mail, and prayer offerings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews and replies to all correspondence as needed.
  • Answers audience questions via various forms of communication, including telephone, internet and written correspondence. 
  • Responds to questions relative to Friary, Marketing, Production, Programming, Radio, Theology and other areas of the Network as appropriate.
  • Takes prayer requests and handles appropriately and respectfully.
  • Accepts and keys donations from donors via various methods, including but not limited to credit card and/or ACH.
  • Performs data entry of donations and gift requests into computer.
  • Routes incoming calls as needed.
  • Provides excellent service to those contacting EWTN.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience or equivalent training and experience.
  • Practicing Catholic with demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic faith and EWTN’s mission.
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Must possess strong computer skills in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Approachable, friendly and helpful demeanor that translates to a positive experience for our EWTN Family.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

PREFFERED:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED
