Accountant

TITLE:                 Accountant

REPORTS TO:    Financial Manager

DEPARTMENT:   Accounting

LOCATION:         Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of standard, technical, accounting functions including analysis, preparation, and maintenance of routine and non-routine entries to the general ledger of EWTN. The Accountant assists in the preparation of interim financial statements, undertakes special projects and/or reports as directed by management, and works closely with management in preparation of annual audits by the independent auditors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews source documents used for accounting, maintenance of ledgers, registers and other records of initial entry, and preparation of periodic and special financial reports, budgets, and maintains fiscal records applying professional accounting principles and methods.
  • Assists in the preparation of daily EWTN cash counts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare special account analyses and financial reports as directed by management.
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries and adjustments, with detailed backup; analyze variance reports; and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Responsible for inter-organization transaction with related parties, including billings and reconciliation of inter-organization accounts.
  • Participate in the monthly financial closing process as directed by management.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all general ledger accounts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical ability to process routine data rapidly, efficiently and in accordance with prescribed goals and policies
  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a team environment
  • Independent bearing with the ability to work with minimum supervision

Associate Producer/Call Screener

TITLE:               Associate Producer / Call Screener

REPORTS TO:    Director of Programming & Production

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Associate Producer/Call Screener, as the first point of contact for listeners during live call-in programs, utilizes excellent knowledge of the Catholic Faith and customer service skills to prep callers for on-air broadcast.  Also executes assigned duties of recording, editing, mixing and transferring audio to and from specific media.  This position is also responsible for exceptional production and promotion of live and recorded programs to EWTN standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all aspects of on-air phone system from screening calls to analyzing logging data to coordinating database of callers for future shows.
  • Serves as point person for all technical issues involving the on-air phone system.
  • Produces and edits recorded EWTN content as well as recorded program partner content to EWTN final broadcast specifications.
  • Assists in the production of live programs and events.

Closed Captioning Technician

TITLE:               Closed Captioning Technician

REPORTS TO:    Closed Captioning Supervisor

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Closed Captioning Technician is responsible for accurately processing the transcript text of a television program into synchronized captions, to be embedded into the program, to allow a viewer to read the dialogue and descriptive sounds. Utilizes special closed captioning equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Upon receipt of a proofed transcript and a post-production program video, the Closed Captioning Technician uses captioning system software to format the text and accurately place captions to match the timing of speech, music and sound effects.
  • Ensure proper screen placement, to avoid covering on-screen graphics.
  • Processes the captions to embed the text on to the disk of the program that will air on television, and routes it to the tape library.
  • As needed, exports to various formats for airing on DVD and video streaming.
  • Maintains organized records of the programs in text and other formats.
  • Reviews broadcast dates to ensure programs are captioned on schedule, allowing other departments time to complete their work before airtime and DVD distribution. 
  • Notifies supervisor of any concerns with tape / graphics / episodes / transcript.
  • Receive live show captions, edit as needed; export to various formats.
  • As needed, proof transcript.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a comparable work environment. 
  • Ability to operate basic video and captioning equipment.
  • Strong computer software skills; including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Viewer Services Manager, this position responds to customer inquiries and performs a variety of duties related to Customer Service in accordance with Network policies and procedures. Develops and maintains rapport with customers (via phone, letter, or e-mail) and works to give them the best possible service in both a timely and courteous manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives, researches, and answers customer inquiries and requests (written or telephone) regarding order status, changes, adjustments, and cancellations.
  • Works with customers to offer alternatives to resolve problems.
  • Receives, researches and answers phone centers requests and inquiries. 
  • Inputs credit cards and researches all declined credit card customers to verify card number, expiration date, etc.
  • Accesses computer system to retrieve customer information, status of orders, make changes on the customer’s order and input credit card and check customer names into the donor file.  Ensures that correct information is used for retrieving and inputting of data.
  • Receives and answers inquiries from other departments regarding Customer Service responsibilities. 
  • Follows up on customer inquiries and research to assure satisfactory completion of order.
  • Completes entry of Internet orders on a daily basis.
  • Enters Spanish web orders manually.
  • Informs Viewer Services Manager or Director of Viewer Services of customer-identified damaged merchandise problems and coordinates all customer information (credit and customer file) to reflect this transaction.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and present solutions relating to potential customer service problem areas.
  • Identifies needs and makes recommendations regarding revisions to policy and procedure.
  • Remains current on changes in policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepares routine reports and assists the Assistant Buyer and Viewer Services Manager with special projects as needed.
  • Directs inquiries from customers not related to Religious Catalogue activities to the appropriate department.
  • Perform month-end procedures via Ability Commerce.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director, Mission Advancement Services directs and leads all personnel who provide services that support fundraising solicitation programs. These services include: Donation Processing, Donation Acknowledgment, Data Hygiene, Report Development and Production, Policies and Procedures, Mission Advancement Call Center, Donor Correspondence and Mission Advancement Systems Administration and Management. The Director, Mission Advancement Services reports to the Vice President of Mission Advancement and collaborates with all MA program areas.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops a comprehensive plan that details the service levels, workflows and key benchmarks for each service area 
  • Ensures timely processing of all donations and donation acknowledgments in accordance with Mission Advancement standards.
  • Establishes standards and best practices to ensure proper hygiene of the data in the MA CRM.
  • Develops and implements best practices for professional management and implementation of the MA call center.
  • Ensures sufficient staffing of each service area to meet timeliness and accuracy standards.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective operation of all Mission Advancement systems and services.
  • Ensures professional training is developed, documented implemented for all MA systems and services
  • Ensures prompt, accurate and professional response to donor correspondence.
  • Develops and implements best practices and workflows for management of donation exception handling.

  • Assists callers in making credit card donations over the telephone.
  • Ensures donors are aware of various donation methods to EWTN.
  • Appropriately responds to donor telephone inquiries. 
  • Evaluates and resolves donor and donation issues, including but not limited to, making donations, making address changes, resolving duplicate accounts, removing donors from the mailing list and coding deceased benefactor accounts.
  • Appropriately decides when to escalate complex donor matters to management for resolution.

  • Safeguards benefactor information and strictly maintains donor privacy.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN News In Depth General Assignment Correspondent works with the Senior Producer and the In Depth team to gather, produce, and present news reports from a Catholic perspective.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, produce, and present general assignment reports of interest to a Catholic audience. Must demonstrate knowledge of current events and public policy from a Catholic perspective.
  • Pitch original story ideas examining the intersection of Catholic Social Teaching and public policy. While the topic is religion, the role is general assignment in that the stories will range from hard news lead stories, to potential investigations, to feature reports. Must have the ability, interest, and flexibility to do them all. 
  • Develop sources and contacts in Washington, D.C. and around the country. Some stories may require regional or national travel. 
  • Collaborate with the editorial and technical teams to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos, and graphics). 
  • Execute live shots in the field or in the studio as needed.
  • Use various social media platforms.
  • Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, broadcasts, websites, social media, and Catholic publications.
  • Multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain relationships within the community.  This may include public appearances and covering events of relevance.

Groundskeeper

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Groundskeeper maintains the Network grounds, maintenance of grounds equipment and appropriately utilizes Network supplies and equipment in order to minimize loss and waste.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cut lawns, trims and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and perimeter.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees, rakes bags and removes dead shrubs, fallen leaves, branches and twigs.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides.
  • Cleans grounds and removes litter.
  • Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
  • Repairs and conducts preventative maintenance on all ground keeping tools and equipment to ensure they are running correctly.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum 1 year ground keeping experience

HVAC Technician

TITLE:                 HVAC Technician

REPORTS TO:    Facilities Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY: Maintain environmental conditions by performing preventive and on-demand maintenance and repairs on heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repair or replace condensers, compressors, pumps, valves, motors, bearings, belts and other parts.
  • Recycle and charge refrigerants as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all environmental equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and take necessary corrective action for unit malfunctions and breakdowns for heating/cooling systems, pumps, air handlers, fans and ducts/dampers.
  • Perform related work on all related and auxiliary HVAC systems and components.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance reports.
  • May work as part of a maintenance team and perform other tasks as required.
  • May do touch up or incidental painting after structure repairs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified EPA-Universal and EPA-R410 Certified.
  • Ability to compute mathematically for measuring and cutting.

  • AL HVAC Contractor License.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

REPORTS TO:    Director of Programming

DEPARTMENT:  Program Scheduling & Traffic

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Traffic Assistant operates computer proficiently to create a log for use by On Air Operations. Coordinates various sources of information in a professional manner, with attention to detail to create and maintain the programming log.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule program episodes, events, and interstitials.
  • Ensure database has all pertinent information for scheduling and Viewer Response, if applicable, and maintain database.
  • Coordinates scheduling information with Web Services.
  • Address and solve problems, which result from miscommunication, error damage, or loss.
  • Coordinate closely with Programming Department to ensure the completion of any last minute changes, as well as assuring those changes are properly handled.
  • Print reports and handle inquiries about specific episodes or programs.
  • Work a flexible schedule as necessary.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Strong computer software experience including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through.
  • Efficient in time management; ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge and competency

PREFERRED:

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in broadcast/cable TV production/programming.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Viewer Services Representative plays an important role representing EWTN to further the message and mission of our foundress, Mother Angelica, to our EWTN Family. The Viewer Services Representative provides an attentive, caring and positive experience to our audience through phone calls, e-mail, mail, and prayer offerings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews and replies to all correspondence as needed. 
  • Answers audience questions via various forms of communication, including telephone, internet and written correspondence. 
  • Responds to questions relative to Friary, Marketing, Production, Programming, Radio, Theology and other areas of the Network as appropriate.
  • Takes prayer requests and handles appropriately and respectfully.
  • Accepts and keys donations from donors via various methods, including but not limited to credit card and/or ACH.
  • Performs data entry of donations and gift/order requests into computer.
  • Routes incoming calls as needed.
  • Provides excellent service to those contacting EWTN.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience or equivalent training and experience.
  • Practicing Catholic with demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic faith and EWTN’s mission and ability to articulate to audience/viewers as needed. 
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Must possess strong computer skills in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Approachable, friendly and helpful demeanor that translates to a positive experience for our EWTN Family.
  • Ability to enter data accurately and promptly.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

PREFERRED:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
