Sirach 1:1-10
1All wisdom comes from the Lord and is with him for ever.
2The sand of the sea, the drops of rain, and the days of eternity—who can count them?
3The height of heaven, the breadth of the earth, the abyss, and wisdom—who can search them out?
4Wisdom was created before all things, and prudent understanding from eternity.
6The root of wisdom—to whom has it been revealed? Her clever devices—who knows them?
8There is One who is wise, greatly to be feared, sitting upon his throne.
9The Lord himself created wisdom; he saw her and apportioned her, he poured her out upon all his works.
10She dwells with all flesh according to his gift, and he supplied her to those who love him.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 93:1-2, 5
1The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed, he is girded with strength. Yea, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
2thy throne is established from of old; thou art from everlasting.
5Thy decrees are very sure; holiness befits thy house, O LORD, for evermore.
Gospel
Mark 9:14-29
14And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd about them, and scribes arguing with them.
15And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and ran up to him and greeted him.
16And he asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”
17And one of the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a dumb spirit;
18and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”
19And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.”
20And they brought the boy to him; and when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21And Jesus asked his father, “How long has he had this?” And he said, “From childhood.
22And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.”
23And Jesus said to him, “If you can! All things are possible to him who believes.”
24Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
25And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again.”
26And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse; so that most of them said, “He is dead.”
27But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
29And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.”

Acts 4:8-12
8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,
9if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a cripple, by what means this man has been healed,
10be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man is standing before you well.
11This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the head of the corner.
12And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 40:2, 4, 7-11
1I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.
6Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire; but thou hast given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required.
7Then I said, “Lo, I come; in the roll of the book it is written of me;
8I delight to do thy will, O my God; thy law is within my heart.”
9I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; lo, I have not restrained my lips, as thou knowest, O LORD.
10I have not hid thy saving help within my heart, I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness from the great congregation.
Gospel
Luke 9:57-62
57As they were going along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
59To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
60But he said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.”
62Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 145:1-6, 21
1I will extol thee, my God and King, and bless thy name for ever and ever.
2Every day I will bless thee, and praise thy name for ever and ever.
3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
4One generation shall laud thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.
5On the glorious splendor of thy majesty, and on thy wondrous works, I will meditate.
6Men shall proclaim the might of thy terrible acts, and I will declare thy greatness.
21My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.
Gospel
John 14:12-17
12“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.
13Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;
14if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
15“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
16And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever,
17even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.
