2 John 4-9

4I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children following the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father.
5And now I beg you, lady, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6And this is love, that we follow his commandments; this is the commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you follow love.
7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.
8Look to yourselves, that you may not lose what you have worked for, but may win a full reward.
9Any one who goes ahead and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the doctrine has both the Father and the Son.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 119:1-2, 10-11, 17-18

1Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
2Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
10With my whole heart I seek thee; let me not wander from thy commandments!
11I have laid up thy word in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.
17Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live and observe thy word.
18Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

Gospel

Luke 17:26-37

26As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of man.
27They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28Likewise as it was in the days of Lot—they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built,
29but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom fire and brimstone rained from heaven and destroyed them all—
30so will it be on the day when the Son of man is revealed.
31On that day, let him who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away; and likewise let him who is in the field not turn back.
32Remember Lot’s wife.
33Whoever seeks to gain his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.
34I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.
35There will be two women grinding together; one will be taken and the other left.”
37And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”

Romans 8:31-39

31What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us?
32He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him?
33Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies;
34who is to condemn? Is it Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us?
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written, “For thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 31:3-4, 6-8, 17, 21

2Incline thy ear to me, rescue me speedily! Be thou a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
3Yea, thou art my rock and my fortress; for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me,
5Into thy hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.
6Thou hatest those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in the LORD.
7I will rejoice and be glad for thy steadfast love, because thou hast seen my affliction, thou hast taken heed of my adversities,
16Let thy face shine on thy servant; save me in thy steadfast love!
20In the covert of thy presence thou hidest them from the plots of men; thou holdest them safe under thy shelter from the strife of tongues.

Gospel

Matthew 10:28-33

28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s will.
30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
31Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven;
33but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
