Hebrews 4:1-5, 11
1Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.
2For good news came to us just as to them; but the message which they heard did not benefit them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers.
3For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall never enter my rest,’ ” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”
5And again in this place he said, “They shall never enter my rest.”
11Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 78:3, 4, 6-8
3things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us.
4We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders which he has wrought.
6that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children,
7so that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;
8and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Mark 2:1-12
1And when he returned to Caperʹna-um after some days, it was reported that he was at home.
2And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them.
3And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.
4And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay.
5And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “My son, your sins are forgiven.”
6Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,
7“Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question thus in your hearts?
9Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your pallet and walk’?
10But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic—
11“I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home.”
12And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

First Reading
1 Corinthians 4:9-13
9For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.
10We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.
11To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless,
12and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;
13when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all things.

Psalms 126:1-6
1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
2Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
3The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad.
4Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the watercourses in the Negeb!
5May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy!
6He that goes forth weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

Matthew 10:16-22
16“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
17Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues,
18and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.
19When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour;
20for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
22and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
