Acts 5:34-42
34But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaʹli-el, a teacher of the law, held in honor by all the people, stood up and ordered the men to be put outside for a while.
35And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you do with these men.
36For before these days Theuʹdas arose, giving himself out to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him; but he was slain and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.
37After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census and drew away some of the people after him; he also perished, and all who followed him were scattered.
38So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this undertaking is of men, it will fail;
39but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!”
40So they took his advice, and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
42And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 27:1, 4, 13-14
1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
4One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
13I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!
14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the LORD!
Gospel
John 6:1-15
1After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tibeʹri-as.
2And a multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were diseased.
3Jesus went up into the hills, and there sat down with his disciples.
4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
5Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a multitude was coming to him, Jesus said to Philip, “How are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”
6This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.”
8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,
9“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are they among so many?”
10Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place; so the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted.
12And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, that nothing may be lost.”
13So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten.
14When the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!”
15Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the hills by himself.
First Reading
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
18For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will thwart.”
20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.
22For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,
23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,
24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Psalms 40:2, 4, 7-10
1I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.
6Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire; but thou hast given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required.
7Then I said, “Lo, I come; in the roll of the book it is written of me;
8I delight to do thy will, O my God; thy law is within my heart.”
9I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; lo, I have not restrained my lips, as thou knowest, O LORD.

Matthew 28:16-20
16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
17And when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted.
18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”
