Hebrews 2:14-18
14Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
15and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage.
16For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham.
17Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people.
18For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Gospel
Mark 1:29-39
29And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her.
31And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them.
32That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons.
33And the whole city was gathered together about the door.
34And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed.
36And Simon and those who were with him followed him,
37and they found him and said to him, “Every one is searching for you.”
38And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.”
39And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

1 Corinthians 4:9-13
9For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.
10We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.
11To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless,
12and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;
13when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all things.

Psalms 126:1-6
1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
2Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

Matthew 10:16-22
16“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
17Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues,
18and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.
19When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour;
20for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
22and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
