Ezra 6:7-8, 12, 14-20

7let the work on this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site.
8Moreover I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God; the cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River.
12May the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow any king or people that shall put forth a hand to alter this, or to destroy this house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Dariʹus make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.”
14And the elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of Hagʹgai the prophet and Zechariʹah the son of Iddo. They finished their building by command of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus and Dariʹus and Ar-ta-xerxʹes king of Persia;
15and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of Dariʹus the king.
16And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy.
17They offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and as a sin offering for all Israel twelve he-goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.
18And they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God at Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.
19On the fourteenth day of the first month the returned exiles kept the passover.
20For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were clean. So they killed the passover lamb for all the returned exiles, for their fellow priests, and for themselves;

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 122:1-5

1I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!”
2Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3Jerusalem, built as a city which is bound firmly together,
4to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.
5There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David.

Gospel

Luke 8:19-21

19Then his mother and his brethren came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd.
20And he was told, “Your mother and your brethren are standing outside, desiring to see you.”
21But he said to them, “My mother and my brethren are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

Galatians 2:19-20

19For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.
20I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 128:1-5

1Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
2You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.
3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
4Lo, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
5The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!

Gospel

Matthew 16:24-27

24Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
25For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
26For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?
27For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
