Dicastery for Legislative Texts

The Dicastery for Legislative Texts, formerly Council, is responsible for interpreting the Church's laws, especially the Code of Canon Law. In doing so it consults with other Roman dicasteries appropriate to the particular questions before it, and, receiving the consent of the Pontiff, issues authoritative interpretations binding on the Church. It also settles questions concerning the conformity of laws by lesser authorities to the general law of the Church.
