Biography

Fr. Richard Ho Lung is a Jamaican, born to Chinese parents on September 17, 1939 in Richmond, St Mary. His family was so poor that as a child he remembers one small cup of rice being passed around for dinner to be shared by the whole family. After years of academic accomplishment he was ordained as a priest in the Society of Jesus in 1971. In 1981 he was inspired to found the “Missionaries of the Poor” (MOP), a religious community of men who have dedicated their lives to the service of the rejected and the destitute. The beauty of his apostolic work has been shown to the world by EWTN through the program The Church and the Poor.
