On 10 November 2006, in the Vatican's Consistory Hall, the Holy Father received a first group of German Bishops to make their ad limina visit this year. In his address, the Pope observed that the increasing secularization of Germany, with the rest of the Western world, should be regarded as a providential challenge to increased catechesis.

On Saturday, 18 November, in the Vatican's Consistory Hall, the Holy Father spoke to a second group of Bishops from Germany. The Pope's address touched on such topics as the role of the laity, evangelizing our youth, charitable institutions, marriage and the family.
